General Dentistry

General dental services for children and adults include prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of teeth, gums and general oral good health.

To achieve this we offer routine check-ups, dental hygiene care and advice, and damage protection mouth guards for contact sports activities.

CHECK-UPS for adults

New patients are invited to make an appointment for a dental check‑up. We can then check the current health and condition of your teeth and your gums can be thoroughly examined.

During a check‑up your dentist will:

  • Check your jaw joints and your 'bite' (occlusion)
  • Look at the health of your mouth, tongue and gums in particular checking for any infection, disorders and disease (including cancer)
  • Record measurements of your gums to assess for gum disease
  • Examine all your teeth for signs of erosion and decay (dental caries)
  • Provide oral health advice, tailored to your needs.

Whether you're making an appointment for yourself, or bringing your child or teenager to us, we want to offer the best expert dental care your teeth deserve. Even if you haven't been to a dentist for a while you will always be made to feel very welcome.

We believe in prevention of decay and dental health awareness is important at every stage in your life

CHECK-UPS for children

Elizabeth Morris
Principal Dentist

Booking an early check-up for your baby or very young child as early as 6 months old is critical for the future of their baby and adult teeth as well as their general well-being.

We're here to ensure your children have health, strong teeth and for this to happen we need to see them regularly - ideally from 6 months old or as soon as their very first tooth comes through.

As parents we know what it's like to have young children and time can run away before you know it. The important thing is to come - as soon as you can. It also helps your child to become accustomed to visiting the dentist from an early age.

My team and I look forward to meeting you and your little one as soon as you are able to visit us..

The national Baby Teeth Do Matter campaign aims to raise awareness of the importance of children adopting healthy dental habits as early as 6 months old in order to to prevent tooth decay.

Studies have shown that by bringing your young child to the dentist for a check-up they will most likely grow up without fear of the dentist, and are far less likely to suffer the horrible consequences of tooth decay and gum disease.

We are taking part in a scheme to help improve access to dental care for very young children called Baby Teeth DO Matter. This means that we are able to offer NEW patient appointments to local children under 5 years old and their siblings.

Tooth decay in a 4 year old boy who has never visited a dentist.

We offer advice to mums and dads with young babies and children and we show toddlers and children how to brush their teeth correctly to make sure they are as clean as possible.

We discuss important dietary advice and information with parents - as well as providing a chart and lovely stickers for the children.

In some cases, where appropriate, we provide Fluoride Varnish Application and Fissure Sealants which reduces the incidence of tooth decay in children.

Keep your teeth super-clean and healthy by booking a regular scale and polish appointment with our dental hygienists. Many of our patients book a visit to the hygienist every 6 months, but there are some factors which might mean more frequent visits are advisable such as your general health, diet and also a genetic predisposition to gum disease. The aim is to prevent tooth decay and gum disease.

During treatment the plaque that has formed on your teeth will be carefully removed and your gums will be thoroughly checked for any sign of disease.

After the treatment our hygienist will remind you how to clean your teeth effectively between appointments and can answer any questions you have about your oral hygiene.

Mouth-guards - custom fit

Tooth fractures, tooth loss, and injuries to the lips, cheeks, and tongue can result from facial blows during contact sports, potentially causing lasting damage to your teeth and surrounding tissues. Additionally, impacts to an unprotected jaw can lead to concussions or traumatic brain injuries.

Dental-related sporting injuries can be prevented with a custom-fit mouth guard. This means that the mouth-guards we provide will be personalised to fit your teeth and gums. Custom mouth-guards offers superior comfort and protection, significantly reducing the risk of injury.

At Morris Dental Care we provide triple-layered custom mouth-guards for enhanced protection and comfort. We don't recommend ' boil-and-bite' mouth-guards which are made at home.

Make an appointment to have a custom made mouth-guard to protect teeth and gums from sports impact damage.
