Tooth extractions
There are times when teeth need to be removed and many extractions are straightforward and uncomplicated. We use local anaesthetic to make the extraction process as comfortable as possible, and for patients who are nervous, sedation is available.
We also handle challenging tooth extractions, including the removal of buried root fragments, impacted teeth, and wisdom teeth.

Georgia Barron MSc, BDS, MFDS (Glas), PG Cert (Med Ed), PG Dip (Dental Implantology) has been part of the team at Morris Dental Care since 2020, and is now welcoming referrals for oral surgery, inhalation and intravenous sedation and dental implants.
Georgia gained her experience in Oral Surgery whilst working in multiple Oral and Maxillofacial Units and has since worked as a Specialty Dentist in Oral Surgery at the University Dental Hospital in Manchester.

Root canal therapy aims to save a tooth when the pulp inside is inflamed or infected. This involves removing the affected pulp, cleaning the nerve canals with an antibacterial preparation, and providing immediate, significant pain relief. We use the latest materials and equipment to maximize the chances of treatment success

If the anatomy of your tooth is complex or you need a replacement root filling, your dentist may recommend seeing Alex, who brings expertise in root canal treatment to our practice.
Alex excels in managing difficult anatomy and previously root-treated teeth. He can re-perform root canals or, when necessary, carry out an apicectomy to remove the root end and any surrounding inflammation.
Root canal treatment progress
Gum disease (gingivitis, periodontal disease) is the sixth most common disease in the world. It is a common bacterial infection of the gums and the supporting tissues. If left untreated, gum disease will develop from inflammation of the gums (gingivitis) and can progress to advanced periodontitis which could lead to tooth loss.

The signs of gum disease
Bleeding gums
When gums are inflamed, they might bleed when you brush or floss. This is often the first sign of gum disease, often starting with gingivitis (inflamed gums) caused by plaque buildup, and can lead to more serious conditions if left untreated.
Bad breath
The bacteria that accumulate in the pockets formed by gum disease can produce unpleasant smelling gases, resulting in persistent bad breath, also known as halitosis.
Loose or drifting teeth
As gum disease progresses, it can destroy the bone and tissue supporting the teeth, causing them to become loose or shift out of alignment. This may result in changes to the bite and gaps between teeth.
Shrinking (receding) gums
Advanced gum disease can lead to gum recession, where the gums pull away from the teeth, exposing the roots. This can make teeth appear longer and contribute to tooth sensitivity.
The early stages of gum disease may present as gingivitis. This disease affects the gums causing inflammation and bleeding. If left untreated it is possible that periodontitis may occur which is a much more serious disease and affects the other supporting structures of the teeth including the bone. In the advanced stages periodontitis will result in loose teeth and eventual tooth loss.

Active Treatment
Meticulous cleaning is performed both above and below the gum line to remove plaque and allow the gums to heal.
Typically carried out under local anaesthesia, the number of appointments needed varies depending on the severity of the disease.
Reassessment
We repeat measurements taken during the initial assessment to evaluate treatment effectiveness. While treatment is effective for most, it is common for some areas to require retreatment.
Maintenance or Advanced Treatment
Most patients enter the maintenance phase by attending regular appointments to sustain gum health. Consistent visits are key to maintaining improvements and preventing recurrence.
If non-surgical treatments prove insufficient, your dentist may refer you to Lizzie (Morris). With extensive experience in treating gum disease and a Diploma in Clinical Periodontology, Lizzie will explore advanced treatment options with you. This may include surgical or regenerative procedures designed to restore lost support for your teeth.
A dental implant is a titanium post which is inserted into the bone to replace a missing tooth root. Once the post is in place, your dentist will fit a crown, a bridge or a denture. This procedure means that the function and appearance of the lost tooth will be restored.

What to expect when you have an implant treatment
Georgia Barron
Firstly there will be an initial consultation with our implantologist Georgia. During your consultation, she will talk to you about what you want to achieve during treatment, any relevant medical history and she will provide an estimated cost. You’ll also be able to ask Georgia any questions you may have about implant treatment.
Treatment planning
A CT scan and an intraoral scan will be taken, which is digitally knitted together to create an accurate 3D representation of your mouth. This allows Georgia to accurately plan optimal implant placement.
Placing your implant
The dental implant procedure is performed under local anaesthetic, so it is pain-free. But if you do feel nervous, we are able to offer sedation to put your mind at ease.
Once the implant is fitted, the area will need time to heal, during which time we can fit you with some temporary teeth.
Fitting your replacement teeth
Once the implant has been carefully placed, it’s normal to wait between four to eight months for the implant to fully integrate with your jawbone.
Once it’s healed, your permanent replacement tooth or teeth can be fitted. This includes the abutment - a small post attached to the top of the implant, which in turn supports the false tooth. The replacement tooth is CAD CAM designed and made by our highly skilled technicians to precisely mimic the size, shape and colour of the teeth they are replacing.
Aftercare
During and after the treatment, we’ll give you all the aftercare advice you need to help you look after your implants. It’s important to follow the aftercare instructions carefully to ensure that your implants last for many years.

Dental sedation involves giving you medicine to help you relax and prevent pain during dental treatment.
It doesn’t put you to sleep like a general anaesthetic; you’re still conscious and able to talk with your dentist. Instead, it puts you into a deeply relaxed state, where you won’t feel any discomfort or pain.
If you have dental anxiety or a phobia of dentists and it’s preventing you from getting treatment, whether that’s replacing a missing tooth, a hygienist clean, or having an extraction, dental sedation may help. Dental sedation may also be suitable if you have a strong gag reflex, require complex treatment, or have a low pain threshold and a topical local anaesthetic isn’t enough.
We offer two types of sedation:
Inhalation sedation
involves breathing in a mixed gas of oxygen and nitrous oxide through a face mask and offers a milder level of sedation. It is commonly used for children, but also suitable for adults.
IV sedation (intravenous)
involves injecting a sedative medication via a plastic tube, into a vein in your hand or arm and offers a deeper level of sedation, which is suitable for most adults.
